🐉 Four Dragons — Foundational Health, Fearless Focus, and the Future of Agentic AI
In the ServiceNow ecosystem, there are generalists — and then there are specialists who go straight to the foundation.
Ian Cox, founder of Four Dragons, didn’t set out to build just another consulting partner. He built a company around one core belief: if the foundation of the platform is strong, everything else becomes possible.
From ITOM and CMDB mastery to leaning into the future of Agentic AI, Four Dragons is quietly becoming one of the most focused and forward-thinking strategic partners in the ecosystem.
We sat down with Ian to talk about how it all started — and where it's headed next.
🧭 Who Are You & What Is Four Dragons About?
Ian Cox:
We are a ServiceNow consulting and implementation partner specializing in the foundational health of the platform. That means deep expertise in ITOM, ITAM, SecOps, and CMDB.
This year, we’re launching a dedicated Generative AI practice to help customers navigate the evolving AI landscape and maximize the potential of ServiceNow’s latest innovations.
🚀 From Oracle to ServiceNow — By Accident
Ian’s entry into the ecosystem wasn’t carefully plotted — it was organic.
After 20 years at Oracle, his former manager Dave Stevens left to lead ServiceNow’s ITSM Business Unit in 2014. At the time, ServiceNow was primarily an ITSM company. Ian joined to manage the “HI” system (now known as Now Support).
And that was it.
He was hooked.
“There’s a unique thrill in taking a customer’s biggest challenge and demonstrating exactly how the ServiceNow platform can fix it.”
That passion led to the founding of Four Dragons — built with the intention of assembling the best consultants in the industry and helping customers maximize ROI while reducing friction in their professional lives.
🎉 One Year In Business
Four Dragons just celebrated its one-year anniversary — a milestone marked by growth, successful implementations, and strong positioning in some of the most technically complex areas of the platform.
For a specialized partner in a competitive ecosystem, that’s no small feat.
⚖️ The Reality of Running Your Own Brand
The Pros:
Freedom. Speed. Accountability.
You can pivot quickly. You don’t need layers of corporate bureaucracy to make decisions. And when you win, you know it was your vision and execution.
The Cons:
You own the failures too.
But as Ian puts it — the sense of accomplishment is unmatched.
In a massive corporation, credit is diluted. In entrepreneurship, the wins and losses are personal. That weight is heavy — but meaningful.
🧠 Where Four Dragons Specializes
Within the ServiceNow community, Four Dragons has become known for deep expertise in:
-
ITOM & ITAM
-
SecOps & CMDB
-
Now Assist & Agentic AI
And that focus is intentional.
“Many partners handle ITSM or CSM. Very few do ITOM and CMDB well. The CMDB is the foundation of the entire platform.”
The goal isn’t incremental improvement. It’s exponential.
Not a few percentage points better — but orders of magnitude stronger.
🎯 Mission & Vision
Mission:
To empower organizations by maturing their use of the ServiceNow platform — specifically within ITOM, SecOps, CMDB, and Gen AI — to drive operational excellence.
Vision:
To make digital resilience attainable for every organization by unifying enterprise data through a master CMDB and automating operations via Generative AI.
It’s not about flashy demos. It’s about infrastructure that holds up under pressure.
🔑 The “One” Rule — Lessons From Year One
If Ian could speak to his Day One self, he would say:
Focus.
“Don’t get distracted by perfect websites, social media blitzes, or cold email marathons. Focus on one amazing service, for one product, for one persona, for one year.”
Master the core.
Then scale.
That level of discipline is rare — and powerful.
🤖 Advice for ServiceNow Professionals: Get Into AI Now
Ian believes we are at the mid-90s internet moment of AI.
Back then, people doubted online grocery shopping or digital auctions. Early adopters became giants.
AI today is immature — but those who start now will reap the biggest rewards as the technology matures.
Four Dragons is leaning heavily into implementing Now Assist and Agentic AI workflows, and ServiceNow has already tapped them for select customer implementations in this space.
The future isn’t theoretical.
It’s being built right now.
🏗 Advice for Beginners: Don’t Just Ask — Show
The candidates who break into this industry aren’t the ones asking for opportunities.
They’re the ones building.
Earn certifications independently.
Build demo apps in your personal developer instance.
Walk into interviews with proof of effort.
“If you show more drive than someone with 10 years of experience, you’ll get the job.”
Drive > tenure.
🔮 Why Tie Your Career to ServiceNow?
From stock performance to executive vision, ServiceNow’s trajectory continues upward.
But beyond numbers, Ian highlights something deeper:
The community.
No matter where you go, you’ll find people who’ve walked the same journey. It’s a supportive club — one that continues to open doors.
⚙️ Where the Platform Can Improve
ServiceNow’s greatest strength — its scale and complexity — is also its biggest challenge.
Long implementation cycles. High costs. Steep learning curves.
Ian believes the future must prioritize Time to Value — making it faster and easier for customers to realize ROI from powerful modules.
That focus aligns directly with Four Dragons’ foundational approach.
🐉 The Future: Agentic Workflows & Digital Resilience
Ian is especially fascinated by where ServiceNow is heading with AI agents and autonomous workflows.
Four Dragons is positioning itself at the forefront of this movement — helping redefine how work gets done.
The dragons aren’t chasing trends.
They’re building infrastructure for the next era of enterprise automation.
