Hello 570 Community!
My name is Olivia Schenkel, and I am a 20-year old health enthusiast. An essential part of health is keeping in shape, and I saw a great business opportunity there. My business is sportswear, and I am starting with three different designed leggings and moving on to sports bras, sweatshirts, joggers, and hopefully more. I am also creating workout guides for my community.
I just started getting this business together in the summer of 2020, which was obviously a very tumultuous time to begin. Within the first few weeks, I realized how much work I was going to have to put into this. Running your own business is very challenging but also super rewarding. I love the idea of working for myself and on my own terms. To have this idea implanted in me, I find a great pride in my successes.
I would say the main key factors in my startup would definitely be social media advertisement. I believe it’s super important to get the word out there and with social media being so huge these days, that’s definitely the way to go. Other ways of advertisement might not be as instantaneous, so getting traction on social media is essential.
One thing I know now that I wish I knew when I started is to trust the process and stay patient. I was always so impatient when trying to find the right manufacturer, but it takes time. Also, square space has been a major help for me in creating my website. As long as you are willing to think and create successfully, you beat the mental blocks.
My advice for upcoming entrepreneurs is to be yourself! Also, if you’re struggling with website help, use square space or Shopify. When trying to find manufacturers, make sure you go into depth with everything they offer and compare with other manufacturers.
